In 2008, New York Times journalist Paul Boutin wrote:
The blogosphere, once a freshwater oasis of folksy self-expression and clever thought, has been flooded by a tsunami of paid bilge. Cut-rate journalists and underground marketing campaigns now drown out the authentic voices of amateur wordsmiths. It’s almost impossible to get noticed, except by hecklers.
He was heralding the death of the blog. At OmniBlog we believe the blog is far from dead, but do think Mr Boutin had a point.
Bloggers are by nature resourceful, enthusiastic and creative, but what chance do they stand of getting their work seen when every major corporation now runs its own ‘blog’?
That’s where OmniBlog comes in. Our site is dedicated to the underdog. Across our network we celebrate the wit, imagination and insight of amateur bloggers, giving them a platform to broadcast their news and views without being muscled out by the big boys.
And for our readers we aim to provide a simple and accessible website that brings the internet’s best articles – from political commentary to satirical comedy, from sports reports to day-to-day musings – together in one place.
OmniBlog aims to provide coverage on a huge range of topics and areas of interest, from film to football, pop music to politics, as well create a vibrant blogging community that proves the web log is very much alive.
